April has come and gone with various things for the Chapter members to have participated in; one was the East Peoria cleanup, picking up trash along the road from the Bob Michael Bridge to the Wal Mart – Lowes parking lot. The other was the (4) Chapter Fun Run to raise money for Pac.
You now have another opportunity to help the Chapter pickup trash along Route 29 on May 3rd. . . . Meet at 9:30 along Auto Row just north of Velde Ford. After picking up trash, the Chapter will purchase pizza and soda for the workers. If you think picking up trash along the road is not important. I would like for you to take into consideration this thought, hopefully none of this will ever happen to you. If you should be unfortunate to meet the pavement with your body, the trash along the highway can cause more of an abrasion than that of the concrete or asphalt. Those plastic bottles that are shredded, discarded CD's and VHS tapes, along with everything else that people toss out of their vehicles are bound to cause an excessive amount of damage to your body. So please help pickup trash and Don't Litter.
May 4th is very important to all A.B.A.T.E. members, on that day we will ride to Springfield en mass to show the politicians that we are united in our effort not to be legislated. So be at the VFW on Meadows Ave. in E. Peoria early so that you can sign in and have coffee and donuts before we leave promptly at 10:00 AM. Please dress for the weather, come rain, cold or even pleasant weather we will be going. The staging area this year in Springfield will be at the Old Heritage House Restaurant at 3851 S. 6th Street. I give you that information, if you choose not to ride with the group leaving from the VFW.
Remember, May is Motorcycle Awareness Month, so get those yard signs out and hopefully the State will put up those banners that say Look Out for Motorcycles. Above all else ride defensively and dress properly.
On May 10th, the Chapter Security would appreciate your help with the parking at Grand Prairie for the Ride for the Cure, be there at 9:30. If you are going to be helping with the parade parking that ends at Expo Gardens be at Expo at 10:30 for the set up. Yes, this requires more volunteerism, but that is what we as a Chapter do. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Rodney Stage has decided to step down from his position as W/C Region Coordinator, but it isn't official as of yet as I write this. Steve Suratt and Randy Hays are the assistants filling in for right now. There will be no W/C Region party this year.
The Chapter needs a Products Person; you will be required to sell and purchase products for the chapter and have these items ready at the various events we host. Please step forward this position needs to be filled. Thank you.
The tri-folds for the Grand National are ready and you can get them from Shirley Lacock our Membership Coordinator. Please take some and pass these out at the various places, you as members frequent or visit, in your many travels. While I am speaking about the Grand National, again we need your help in doing the many jobs that are required to pull this off. We need security personnel, people to serve beer, check ID's for over 21, sell beer tickets, and help at the PMC grounds where the parade to the river front begins and generally setting up the area on the river front. If I have forgotten anything I'm sure that we can find a position for you. The more help we receive from you, the less we have to purchase from outside sources. So please help, you are needed. Remember this is Your Chapter and the service you provide strengthens us as a Chapter.
Our next Chapter meeting will be June 1st. Until then ride safe and keep the shiny side up.
