Safety, Education, and Awareness

Motorcycle Safety

ABATE of Illinois supports the education of all motorcyclists and the general motoring public as the most effective method for reducing motorcycle accidents, injuries and fatalities.

Motorcycle Awareness

ABATE of Illinois Motorcycle Awareness Program

ABATE of Illinois' motorcycle awareness program was developed with the new and inexperienced driver in mind, and teaches them how to look for, and interact in traffic with motorcycles.

Rider Education

ABATE of Illinois encourages all motorcyclists to complete both the BRC (Basic Rider Course) and the ERC (Experienced Rider Course,) which were developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and are sponsored by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

In our area the classes are held at ICC, Illinois Central College, or ISU, Illinois State University, administered by the ISU Motorcycle Safety Department. A $20.00 deposit is required and is refundable upon course completion. Any Illinois resident 16 years of age or older who holds a valid drivers license or permit may register. Students less than 18 years of age must have parental or legal guardian permission to participate in the class.

Safety and Education

“DON’T FORGET” The Safety Check’s are ongoing and being set up all over the place and we received the following from our State Safety and Education Coordinator.

Pass the word that this is Safety Check Season, be sure to remind everyone to carry an M endorsement on their license and have their insurance card on their bike at all times.

"When you make a difference today, you change the future"

I have some additional Safety and Education classes set up this summer in some of our local High Schools. The next one will take place on July 22, 2010 thanks to Ellen Davis and her offer’s of getting us into the children’s home for their Drivers Education Classes this summer. I have sent out letters to the local high schools to get us scheduled for the fall season, and the instructor’s have advised that as soon as they know the dates they will contact me.
